Haiti

The project in Haiti is another good example of Larry's approach. The picture above shows a young woman holding bags of seeds after the devastation caused by a hurricane. Larry contacted some U.S. college students doing disaster work. He mobilized and sent them several thousand empty plastic bags and bulk amounts of open-pollinated seeds.

He instructed his new "angels" to find a person with authority, a mayor, a council member or priest to help divide the seeds with the people. He has learned that the act of dividing the seeds in public with the entire village or town present helps to build important relationships, relationships needed to help them establish long-term self-reliance. Hungry people grew their own food. They are now learning to save seeds. Larry is now helping them to distribute date palms as part of a plan for economic self-reliance.
