Originally T. vulgare var. lutescens (Percival). The name Japhet is a christening originating with Messrs. Vilmorin of the famous seed house who selected it in 1892 for its good yields and other properties. A spring wheat in colder climates with yellowish-red kernel color. Famous for use in artisan French, wood-fired breads. Plant height of 35- 45.” Imported to England in 1904 and called “Red Marvel”. Closely resembles Red Admiral. This is a wheat from long before the days of herbicides, a wheat which made the artisan breads baked in the wood-fired ovens of France, in the days of carriages and candlelight, when food was still made by hand!
