Famously nutritious, easy to grow and thresh with big yields: up to 2 pounds in only 25 square feet. Makes rich, whole-wheat type flour, and a nutty rich-tasting hot cereal. Also used for hay, forage, and beer. This tiny seed should probably be started in flats and transplanted out when 2-3 inches tall. The seedlings look like grass and are hard to tell from weeds. Plant out 6-12 inches apart in spring in a sunny warm place. Needs a long season, and should be planted as soon as possible after frost. If you season is not long and hot, start under cover (fleece or plastic) a month before last frost date. May be direct-sown if you have a 5 month frost-free season.
